Dr. Yaakob Sapari, State Minister for Selangor affirms that the people should not fear the State running dry. Selangor currently has five dams drawing water from Hulu Selangor to Hulu Langat.

“If we control forest reserves and dams, we should have enough water for Selangorians”, said Dr. Yaakob. He added that the government is also trying out other methods of water conservation such as the Rainwater Harvesting program.

Claiming that though global warming and changes in weather has had an effect on water supply, Selangor will not run dry as long as forests are conserved properly, rain patterns maintain, and the harvesting program succeeds.

Dr. Yaakob also stated that in addition to the conservation efforts, the cleaning up of rivers in Klang will also improve and increase Selangor’s water sources. This will allow a maximised usage of water from rivers and minimise pollution at the same time.

The proposed solution appears to involve a deep sense of both governmental and communal efforts towards conservation of the state’s natural resources.

However, despite Dr. Yaakob’s positive affirmation on Selangor’s water supply, his response relating to the state’s arrangements with Pahang and results of studies on Selangor’s population increase appeared to be vague.
